Why – explain the objective of the event

Through Arts in Your Neighbourhood, National Arts Council (NAC) is aiming to bring interesting arts experiences to the different neighbourhoods in Singapore through 3 main programmes namely, Arts in Your Neighbourhood, Arts and Culture Nodes and the NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park.

This event is targetted at Singaporean’s interests in arts and its culture, learning how to appreciate different kinds of everyday art, participating in creating a masterpiece of our own and providing the chance to be immerse in one. In addition, this event is to encourage all Singaporeans to embrace arts & culture and integral as part of our lives.

Who – Describe the target markets(s) of the event

Arts in Your Neighbourhood and Arts & Culture Nodes targets at all Singaporeans from all walks of life, meaning anyone and everyone from different generations as mentioned on their website. Having 3 components in the event, NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park would target at families and adults with an interest in the local music scene and those who have a passion for music in general.

Where – Discuss the choice and suitability of venue

In this installation of Arts in Your Neighbourhood, they chose to focus on the town of Punggol. Most of the highlights of the event happened at SAFRA Punggol (Atrium), Oasis Terraces (Community Plaza, Rooftop) and Punggol Waterway Park (Outside Oasis Terraces). To welcome the new Punggol Hub in near 2021, addition of some art elements to the neighbourhood can bring vibrancy and to hype the region.

Apart from Punggol, most activities and programmes were held around neighbourhoods, libraries, SAFRAs and Community Clubs, areas where it is easily accessible and are part of people’s daily routine. Arts in Your Neighbourhood’s purpose is to provide interesting arts experience as close as possible to locals, encouraging Singaporeans to embrace and integral Arts & Culture as part of our daily lives. By placing the activities and programme near high residential areas, they are achieving their goal of providing art as close as they can to the residents and how art can be integrated into our everyday lives.

When – Discuss the suitability of the date(s)

Arts in Your Neighbourhood takes place biannually in March and November and each installment usually lasts about a month. In the latest November addition, most activities and programmes were being held during the weekends from Fridays to Sundays. Apart from all-days installations such as the “Five Stones” and the “Sensing Punggol”, programmes like the “7 Wonders of Punggol”, “Singapore Poetry on the Sidewalks (S.P.O.T.S)” and “Every Little Step I Take – Pop-Up Performance” were specially arranged to occur on the weekends. These arrangements were made to meet the schedule of residents’ work and study schedule. By having the programmes on the weekends, more residents can attend the event and immerse themselves in the programmes which was quite well thought of by the organizers.

What – Examine the programme activities

The programme activities listed in the Programme Booklet comprises of different art forms of various cultures. The event showcases how different groups of people choose to express their passion for art differently through the usage of instruments, technologies and canvas.

The wide variety of programmes and activities available is suitable for participants of all ages and were all conveniently located in the our neighbourhood for all to enjoy, participate and take pictures to share online is definitely a big plus point to the event.
